Prof S.C. Bagri

Prof. S.C. Bagri carries 41 years of teaching, research, and administrative experience and started his career in 1980 as a lecturer at HNB Garhwal University. Prior to this, he obtained a master's degree from Allahabad University in 1976, an M.Phil. in 1978, a doctoral degree in 1988, and a one-year advanced course in cultural tourism from Italy in 1989. He was elevated to the post of professor at the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in 1995. He was the vice chancellor of Himgiri Zee University Dehradun from 2012 to 2015 and has published more than 60 research papers and 8 books besides his publication on ”Entrepreneurship Development in Tourism and Hospitality Management, published by IGI Global, New York, in November 2022, and another editorial work on Himalayan Mountain Adventure Tourism published by Apple Publication, London.

He was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Tourism, listed in the UGC CARE list until 2020. He had also held the position of consultant of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Madrid, for a year and was one of the members of the UNWTO team that developed the Tourism Master Plan of Punjab as well as the Coastal Tourism Development Plan of West Bengal state in 2007-08. Dr. Bagri was also the team leader of a research project on “OffbeatTourism Destinations for Ecotourism Promotion in Uttarakhand State, sponsored by GTZ Germany.

He had also completed more than a dozen major research projects funded by UGC, AICTE, ICSSR, the Department of Environment, the Government of India, and the Agricultural Finance Corporation, besides supervising more than 25 doctoral scholars. He was the Coordinator of Cost-Effective and Eco-Friendly Tourism in the Himalayan States, under the supervision of the NITI Aayog, Govt. of India, in 2020. He is on the panel of NAAC, the Government of India, and the University Grants Commission of India for the accreditation and approval of Indian universities and colleges and was the chairperson of the NAAC Peer Team in more than 45 PG colleges of India for the accreditations and was also a member of the UGC team in more than a dozen universities that applied for UGC approval under UGC Act 2(f) and 12(b). From 2021 to 2024, he was a member of the Indian Commission for Education for UNESCO. At present, Emerald Publication gave him the responsibility to write a book on climate change and human and wildlife conflicts in the Himalayas, expected to be released in December 2025.
